Lake Mburo National Park in Uganda
Lake Mburo National Park is located in the western Part of Uganda some kilometers off Mbarara Town in Kiruhura District about 240 kilometers (150 mi) by road West of Kampala offering amazing Wildlife Safari to travelers from all over the world. The Park inhabits wildlife animals like hippopotami, impala, warthogs, elands, buffaloes, jackals, leopards and over 300 bird species.
Activities to Do in Park
Game Drives
Game Drives are the most prominent safari activity carried out in the park and these are done in 4×4 vehicles with a skilled park ranger guide who tells you more about the various wildlife animals and their preferred habitats. You watch wildlife animals like zebra, giraffes, warthogs, buffalo, Hippos, small antelopes etc. These usually start at 6:30 am to 7:00 pm for a period of 2-3 hours.
Boat Cruises
Boat Cruises in Lake Mburo National Park are also exceptional and are done along the stunning Lake Mburo where you watch various wildlife animals along the shores as well as crocodiles and hippos beneath the waters. The Boat Cruises are scheduled in two sessions i.e 6:30 am and 2:30 pm. There is a late evening cruise where you watch the African Sunset.
Bird watching
Lake Mburo National Park is perfect for bird watching as you watch various birds in the forest vegetation habitat around the Park. The Birds you watch here include; the Rufous-bellied Heron, Bateleur, Coqui Francolin, Grey Crowned Crane, Black-bellied Bustard and Brown-chested Lapwing, Emerald-spotted Wood-Dove, Brown Parrot, Red-headed Lovebird, Ross’s Turaco, Bare-faced Go-away-bird, Green Wood-hoopoe, Common Scimitarbill, White-headed Barbet, Red-faced Barbet, Nubian Woodpecker, Red-shouldered Cuckoo-shrike, Long-tailed Cisticola, Yellow-breasted Apalis, White-winged Tit and Finfoot, rare Red-faced Barbet.
Hiking and Nature Walks
Hiking and Nature walks are exciting in Lake Mburo National Park as you transfer with a skilled park ranger who informs you a lot about Lake Mburo as well as the numerous wildlife animals. The guided nature walks lead you to locations like at the salt lick at Rwonyo since this area attracts many animals. The walks take 2 hours and start at 7:00 am since at this time the hyenas are returning back to their dens and hippos back to the lake.
Sports Fishing
Sports Fishing is also exciting along Lake Mburo and all anglers are advised to carry their own fishing equipment. There are about 6 different fish species with Tilapia being the most prominently caught.
Horseback Safaris
Horseback Safaris at Lake Mburo National Park are also exceptional as they involve transferring on a horse as you watch various wildlife animals wander around the park and these include; zebra, eland, buffalo, warthog, topi, impala, duiker, bushbuck and waterbuck. The adventure takes 4 hours as you enjoy views of the hill top, lakes and vegetation terrain.
